Wovenlight is a collaborative interdisciplinary design collective between Red River Métis artist, Robyn Adams, and Filipino Artist, Narita Reyes Ico.

While each member draws from their distinct cultural backgrounds, their practices converge to tell stories of land, water, and cultural knowledge. Robyn works across aspects of light – plant knowledge to film photography, poetry, and digital arts. Narita’s practice spans weaving, through tapestry dreamwork, painting, and bookbinding to 3D digital intersecting. At their core, both are storytellers.

Narita is a Filipina artist currently living and learning as a guest on the unceded and ancestral land of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) people. As the daughter of two parents from the archipelago known today as the Philippines, her art originated from the desire to deepen her cultural roots and over time have evolved into a celebration of the Philippine spirit. Her work has been exhibited at the 2023 Venice Biennale under the Architects Against Housing Alienation collective and she is the recipient of the 2021 IOC IPC IAKS Bronze Medal Architecture & Design Award for her conceptual design of a community space located in downtown Vancouver.

Robyn Adams

Robyn Adams is a Red River Métis landscape designer, filmmaker and multidisciplinary artist currently based between Winnipeg and Vancouver. She is a citizen of the Manitoba Métis Federation with Michif family who took scrip in Rat River Settlement. She is the founder of Bright Earth Studio based in Vancouver, BC and has hosted workshops on Indigenous Futurism in British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Her artwork has been exhibited and published across Turtle Island, including at imagineNATIVE film festival, the Canadian Centre for Architecture, Plug In Institute of Contemporary Art, and SITE Magazine.

Their collaborative work engages multiple artistic mediums, grounded in the belief that slow hand-made processes are central to their practice and commitment to storytelling with community and the land. Wovenlight was formed in 2024, when they both studied architecture and landscape architecture, and produced their first show at Platform Gallery in Winnipeg. Now, both graduated, their collective is expanding their collaboration through multidisciplinary architectural and land-based artwork across BC.
